The face drawings are mostly from around summer time, when I'm really rather productive. The animal drawings are also from that time but are redrawn in Photoshop because the originals are quite possibly the worst animal drawings on the face of the planet (and others). I thought I'd get clever with the orange. Intended to be read top-to-bottom, left-to-right.

The Mitsubishi commercial has a father and son going into a dealership to find a car. They come across a Lancer and it's pretty much a done deal from there. What follows is all the excitement and wonder that comes with the prospect of purchasing a new car.

The Beer commercial shows a couple caught in the middle of an earthquake. They run out but the girlfriend is concerned for her cat's safety. The dutiful boyfriend returns to the kitchen where he discovers the cat and a beer. While weighing his priorities, a gas stove falls and the broken gas line causes an explosion which sends the boyfriend flying out the front door. The girlfriend again asks about the cat who, as we discover, is clinging to the boyfriend's back charred but (presumably) alive.Kebikunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11447510772687626121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2795776546755222774.post-89572480170181283562010-10-18T21:21:00.000-07:002010-11-25T09:59:53.676-08:00Quakerstate Oil<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 161px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/TO6kDT6k6aI/AAAAAAAAAVs/GcjhCFLQjdM/s200/quakerstate.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5543548568132184482" />

Some boards for a commercial involving cars and people succeeding. Meant to be read top to bottom, left to right. Commercial starts with a happy guy in a mustang and eventually shifts to a little vignette where some dude graduates and seals some deal with a bunch of construction guys. Overall, I'm happy with these boards because I was able to do them relatively quickly and I think the frames read well enough. I will post my scene next, after I get around to organizing the frames.Kebikunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11447510772687626121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2795776546755222774.post-66911911171807699692010-09-27T21:55:00.001-07:002010-09-27T23:15:41.741-07:00More storyboards and sketches<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/TKGIBc0CDaI/AAAAAAAAAVE/jGM7aFF9ew0/s200/StudentSession1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5521844176628616610" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 102px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/TKF3n7ZONHI/AAAAAAAAAUw/HyRelC_0I-I/s200/FANGS.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5521826145975022706" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/TKF3oSI4QtI/AAAAAAAAAU4/5Vn_uXzGgek/s200/medievaltimesboards.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5521826152080491218" />

Here's some more storyboard stuff that I'm posting so that I can monitor my progress through this mentor-ship thing. The one with snakes is for a film called "FANGS." The premise simply involved teenagers stranded on an island that was full of snakes. Me and four other students were assigned different chunks of the script. I was honored to be put in charge of the final action sequence but was a bit ashamed when I discovered that, of the 60-70 frames I completed, only this 16 frame sequence came out okay, and even it is in dire need of an establishing shot among other things. In any case, first time working with a director. I wonder if the movie ever got off the ground.

My first assignment with Mark was one that I chose to do: Medieval Times. I felt like a total bad ass while I was drawing these. That is, until I scanned them. I don't think they're bad, but they sure are dirty. I did everything I could to get rid of all the noise but, alas, it remains. Anyway, this is the best I've got thus far. I'll be finishing up a 4 page action sequence tomorrow (80-90 frames) so hopefully I draw them well.Kebikunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11447510772687626121noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2795776546755222774.post-47492111041243070482010-05-17T19:26:00.000-07:002010-05-17T19:37:46.938-07:00More Work in Progress<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 128px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/S_H86LvhK1I/AAAAAAAAAUg/KRx7ea3NoOQ/s200/illustration4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472433098746571602" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 77px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/S_H85p_B6gI/AAAAAAAAAUY/0qxBx8HOZeo/s200/illustration2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472433089684826626" />
More updates. So these are a couple projects I was working on for two separate classes that still need work. My theme for my portfolio class is tentatively "fashion illustration" though I've resolved that it is, in fact, taking cliche fashion illustration scenarios and putting a twist on them. It's true that fashion illustration is usually about the clothes and what not, so what I'm doing is more about the lifestyle. But rather than promoting the lifestyle to the point where it's nauseatingly glamorous, I'm trying to illustrate that high status doesn't exempt people from being people. There will be 5 total when all is said and done.Kebikunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11447510772687626121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2795776546755222774.post-39096755713664821342009-12-20T15:29:00.000-08:002009-12-20T15:38:10.354-08:00Finished Semester<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 139px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/Sy61L9t53dI/AAAAAAAAARY/raU3gpiI48o/s200/faces10thru13.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5417466618923572690" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 123px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/Sy61LUT3ShI/AAAAAAAAARQ/aWGN7l82eiE/s200/lifedrawings.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5417466607808498194" />
Well, finally finished a particularly grueling semester at CSULB and so it's time for Winter vacation. I'll be doing a few [unpaid] commercial boards to beef up the portfolio and then it's off to hopefully get some paid storyboard work. In the meantime, more drawing and more [digital] painting to prepare myself for my final semester at CSULB and then it's off to [finally] meet the "real world" head on at the tender age of 27.

Anyway, here're some drawings from life and some more colored faces which I think are more successful, in terms of color, than my previous batch. I even like the bottom right hand corner one in spite of her frightfully large eyes.Kebikunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11447510772687626121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2795776546755222774.post-9797304425838552802009-11-19T20:36:00.000-08:002009-11-19T20:48:43.413-08:00Second storyboard assignment<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 128px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/SwYfo31uLKI/AAAAAAAAAQY/rowIk6w3HRQ/s200/AesopBoards.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406043189749361826" />

The assignment was to take an Aesop's fable and make a storyboard out of it. We were to do a minimum of 30 frames, which is what I ended up with. I left a few out, however, cause' they just seemed redundant. Overall, I think some of the drawings are okay, but the pacing is a little choppy.
So I drew a bunch of stuff Spring 09' that I never scanned and, consequently, never posted. So I scanned. It took forever, mostly because my current computer is on its last leg.

I took a "figures in context" class with Mark and apparently missed the point. I learned a lot, even if my brain is still trying to process the information. I'll post a lot of my stuff next time. My process is a bit strange, though. I'll do the gesture drawing in the time given, then at a later time, I'll come back and fill in information to see how well I know where stuff goes. At the end of the class, I realized that I really do like ink wash and water color.

The longer pose is from Robin's costume figure drawing class, again. I generally do better drawings when I have between 5 and 20 minutes.
My goal now is to do more field sketching of scenery, including buildings and landscape. I might have to start another blog dedicated to my sketches.Kebikunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11447510772687626121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2795776546755222774.post-31969292215691848722009-05-21T22:45:00.000-07:002009-05-21T22:48:34.403-07:00Couple and Horse<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 137px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/ShY8q-ZNsOI/AAAAAAAAAG8/_ySAfSCt6Ak/s200/horsemoon.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5338521117295227106" />
So this was my final project for my Advanced A class. It isn't really looking very "advanced" though I think most people -including myself- were a bit burned out by this point. I tried to do a decent job, though. I'll probably end up revising the drawing and colors a little later. I'll post it when it's done.Kebikunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11447510772687626121noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2795776546755222774.post-54646458000568299322009-05-14T20:57:00.000-07:002009-05-14T21:15:35.906-07:00Old Stuff<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 90px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/SgzsOZa3shI/AAAAAAAAAG0/gXuICmn6FBU/s200/sketch10.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335899390613107218" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/SgzsOQEs1MI/AAAAAAAAAGs/bPq3yX_Ql2s/s200/BnB3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335899388104201410" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 146px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/SgzsOawgUPI/AAAAAAAAAGk/t3g6767Nc_k/s200/fairytale1N3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335899390972285170" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 196px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_e-Xy7JrDkOE/SgzsOOvKFDI/AAAAAAAAAGc/llY_1AG2igk/s200/AyaNAkiFaces.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335899387745408050" />
Here's some older stuff that I found in some folders that I felt like posting either cause' I kinda' like the drawings or cause' I intend to redraw them all finalized style.

Illustration A assignment: My interpretation of beauty and the beast which initially involved punk versions of the two. Apparently, they fall in love cause' they're both skateboarding fanatics. I kept the rougher illustration cause' I enjoyed the silly idea of the beast eating a pig. The problem is, if you think about the situation too much, it's really sad and gruesome. I kinda' wish I could go back into the illustration where the beauty is crying over the beast's body and do more work on the window, but unfortunately I lost the originals. Too bad.

Aya and Aki faces: I liked these faces a lot. I've noticed that my older stuff looks a lot more complete. The lines are cleaner and there's more stuff going on. Everything nowadays is sketchy and incomplete. Ultimately, I believe there's much more to gain from sketching than there is from getting precious over a single drawing, but I still miss stuff like this. It's strange how when you look back on your old work, it feels like a different person drew it. I guess that's proof that people are constantly changing.

Girl: I like the folds on her pants. They still appeal to me though I remember that some people said they were distracting and strange looking. I guess I can see where they're coming from. She was based on a girl I was sorta' into, and who I'm no longer into. But I still kinda' like the drawing.

All in all, I think I had some weaknesses with anatomy and structure that I've since addressed though it may not be readily apparent. I'll post some more drawings from the sketchbook once I get back. There're just too many. This summer will be devoted to my graphic novel gig, zoo drawing, and learning how to color cause' I'm sick of my instructors saying, "the drawing is nice BUT..."Kebikunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11447510772687626121noreply@blogger.com1
